The square nails are a relatively recent fashion that gives your hands a more ” urban chic ” and less than the classic round or oval shapes. With the difference that the more round shape tends to optically taper the hand: choose the square nail if you already have thin and elongated hands.
Personally, I have always liked the square shape, especially with a beautiful super refined French manicure in neutral and elegant tones; but I have always found it difficult to achieve it and obtain a satisfactory result. The round nail is made simply by following the shape of the natural nail, the square requires more work with the file and a certain precision. A skill that I have honestly never been able to boast.

ToggleYou need to have a nail of at least medium length to have enough space to get a decent shape; which is not easy if you have brittle nails that break easily. And if the nail is not adequately reinforced with vitamins and mineral salts from a varied and balanced diet. It will always tend to flake off, so the imperative is to abound with fruit, vegetables, meats rich in iron.
On the other hand, a square manicure certainly immediately gives the hands a neat look: I love to combine it above all with enamels in neutral shades in full Kate Middleton style: taupe, beige, white, cream, pink nude. Also, the colored shades are ok, as long as you don’t keep the nail too long: it is mandatory to apply a base to prevent the strong-colored nail polish from chipping immediately. And finish the application with a glossy effect topcoat that makes the color result more current and further prolongs the life of the enamel when our hands spend extra time in the water thanks to swimming pools, sea, frequent showers.
You can always customize it with nail stickers: colorful, original, and cheap, they are literally applied like a sticker and then fixed with the topcoat. Or on the market, you can find easy-to-apply glitter and glitter to enliven your disco evening with an original manicure.
The medium to long square nail is perfect for nail art as it gives you enough room to let off your creativity without being too long and being vulgar. Therefore, if you have manual skills, arm yourself with specific pens to draw on the nails in order to customize your manicure as you like. Alternatively, for the more clumsy like me, I have already recommended in other posts (and I continue to recommend!) The sponge manicure: it is effective but simple to make and you just need a triangular foundation sponge, two shades of enamels, and one of the many tutorials that you find on the net on how to make it.
