To briefly explain, problems with a wireless Pager System are straightforward to explain when they work but there are a few common faults to most systems. Here are the reasons for them and the solutions.

Signal Dropouts and Interference

Many other wireless devices such as Wi-Fi routers, baby monitors and cordless phones can also cause signal dropouts by transmitting on similar frequencies. Try moving the receiver away from such items and failing that, keep other devices on similar frequencies a meter or more apart. For more information see Ofcom’s guidance on how radio spectrum is managed in the UK.

Buttons Not Triggering the Receiver

Bad connections from weak batteries send a faint signal that the receiver fails to pick up. Try a new battery then check for a poor connection from close range. The button having lost its pairing is dealt with in the last section.

Display or Alert Faults

The display not working will show up as a blank or frozen display. We have seen this problem disappear after a full power cycle of the receiver. Unplug receiver, wait 30 seconds and then power up again. Alerts not working – check volume setting and see if the receiver is in mute mode.

Range Loss After a Layout Change

Range reduced due to new walls, partitions or heavy metal structures within the building. Try to position the Pager receiver in the centre of the building, on the ceiling or against a wall to get the best possible signal.

Pairing Failures After a Battery Swap

When you fit a new battery, your button will return to its ‘unpaired’ state. Dinggly buttons need to be paired with your receiver while the receiver is in pairing mode. Hold the button down until the receiver beeps and confirms pairing.

For Pager System, see www.dinggly.com.

By working through the above checks in turn, it is usually possible to identify and rectify any problem with your wireless pager system without having to call in for external assistance.
