Over the past month, the popular music streaming platform of Spotify has run into a bit of a rocky period with the share price going through quite the dip before its most recent bounce back, and has managed to hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons too.
As online entertainment continues to evolve whether through live streaming for movies and tv, online gaming platforms as some options here are amongst the favorite, or in this case music streaming that has evolved into radio and podcasting, it’s inevitable that there will be some stumbles along the way, but the recent drama has been something many fans have put down instead to inaction.
It was a record breaking announcement when Spotify first announcement that the Joe Rogan Experience would be moving exclusively to the platform, having instead been more of a solo effort in the past it was one of the more prestigious podcasts to finally be picked up by a larger streaming platform and certainly led the way for some others to follow too – and with a reported $100 million price tag attached, not one that came cheaply either. It isn’t the first time that Rogan has come under some scrutiny with some episodes earlier in the year, but the latest issue has largely come around with the supposed medical misinformation and how this could be misleading to listeners.

The podcast has long been known for it’s alternative views of different subjects and Rogan himself has also said he makes an effort to invite guests that may have different views and would want to talk about topics in a different way – he has been known to have some very respected figures including the likes of scientists Brian Cox and Neil DeGrasse Tyson, so it should come as no surprise that there may be guests on the other side of the coin when it comes to their own theories and beliefs, but perhaps this bigger audience brought about by Spotify has highlighted that more.
With a few big names pulling their music from the platform, it has created quite a dilemma – it can’t undermine its own $100 million decision, but it’s believed inaction to make any changes at all may have blown some of the recent drama out of scale somewhat – with no changes on the way from the platform directly and certainly no change coming to the podcast for the type of content it produces, this certainly won’t be the last time the platform comes into some hot water, and certainly not the last time for the host either.
