Getting Your Home Autumn / Winter Ready

JEFFREY Dawson October 18, 2022 Renovation Leave a Comment

Autumn has arrived and now is that time of the year where we all start to feel the drop in the temperature and put our heating back on. Now is a good time to have our boilers checked, as they will have had little use over the summer months, so making sure that they are all in good working order now is a good idea to see us through the winter.

Contact a professional to do this, such as this boilers Gloucester based company HPR as looking inside a boiler can be dangerous when you don’t know what you are doing!

As well as checking that your boiler is working safely, there are lots of other things that you also need to do in order to prepare for the coming winter months – both in the home and for your mind and body to ensure that you go into the winter well prepared for what it has to throw at you…

Healthwise this is the time when you can suffer both mentally and physically. This year in particular, the usual winter bugs are due a big comeback, so if you are over 50 or have underlying health conditions which may make you vulnerable to germs, you should go and get your flu vaccination.

Now is also the time to start taking vitamins and eating well. Vitamin D in particular is something that you need to supplement during the winter months as we receive much lower levels of sunlight. Eat foods that are high in vitamin C such as fruits and vegetables as this will help your immune system to fight off any cold and flu bugs – as well as the dreaded Covid!

Autumn leaves look very beautiful as they light up the trees in all the autumnal colours, but they can cause all sorts of problems.  Keep an eye on the leaves falling from the trees and clear them up. Leaves landing on paths and in gardens are a dangerous slipping hazard on a damp morning so regularly clear them as they start to fall. It is also important at this time of the year to keep an eye on your gutters as nearby leaves can be blown into them which then blocks them up and causes a lot of damage.

To conserve energy in your home, it is also well worth checking the insulation in your home. This is one of the best ways of saving energy as well as saving a lot of money on your heating bills, and you may be able to get a government grant t cover the cost of insulating your home. With fuel bills set to take a price hike, there has never been a better time to get your home insulated, and of course this also has a benefit to the planet.
