The first Matrix film is considered to be by far the best in the series. It works as a stand-alone movie and if you’ve never seen the 3 sequels it doesn’t really make a lot of difference. The first film is a high energy, fast tempo affair that has a very deep side to it as well. It supposes that the world we live in is just a computer simulation, one of which we are all, unwittingly, a part of.
After being given AI (artificial intelligence), the world is controlled by machines who decide that humans are pointless and need to be gotten rid of. However, they do find a use for humans as a power source. Some humans have escaped and try to free others from the program of the Matrix. One of these is the character Trinity, played by Carrie Ann Moss. She is trying to contact Neo, Keanu Reeves, and free him.
However, her presence is detected and the machines send in a version of themselves to capture her. These are the brown suit wearing agents who look to maintain the Matrix. No human has beaten them in a fight so Trinity must escape. She takes to the roof but has no time to inspect the quality of the Roof sealant. The agent and the Police, humans caught in the Matrix, are in hot pursuit. Helped by her colleagues back in the real world she uses her strength and skills to make good her escape, narrowly being mown down by a rubbish truck in the process.
