Steps to follow:

Step: 1

To begin with, we are going to talk about why it is bad to consume sugar. Sugar, originally, was a natural ingredient that was extracted from sugar canes; However, currently, the sugar we eat is a product that has been refined (that is, it has gone through chemical processes) that have made it run out of any nutrients. Therefore, eating sugar is currently the same as eating empty calories in addition to putting a product in our body that negatively affects our health.

One of the most well-known effects of sugar consumption is diabetes, a disease that occurs when our bodies cannot metabolize the excess sugar we eat. But it is not the only one, since sugar can produce the following:

  • Obesity: as we have already said, taking sugar is the same as consuming empty calories that do not contribute anything to our body except fat. Eating a lot of sugar causes insulin to rise in the body and this, by not being metabolized, ends up turning into saturated fat.
  • Cavities and oral diseases: sugar bacteria feed on sugar so if you take too much you can cause cavities to appear.
  • The risk of heart disease as triglycerides in the blood increase and, therefore, cholesterol levels increase, preventing blood circulation from flowing normally.
  • Risk of diseases in the liver: sugar is the organ that is responsible for metabolizing sugar and, when you take a lot, it cannot be processed and ends up turning into fat.
  • Risk of suffering from cancer since insulin can cause the reproduction of cancer cells.

Step: 2

For all this that we have just discussed, it is important that you start giving up sugar as soon as possible. However, with this we do not mean that from now on your whole life has to taste salty, but that there are natural alternatives to sugar that contain optimal nutrients and vitamins for our body and that, in addition, manage to give that sweet and tasty touch. to our meals.

Honey is one of the best options to stop taking sugar without giving up sweets. Keep in mind that this ingredient is packed with health benefits, although it is true that it contains a lot of calories. Therefore, we recommend that you drink honey but with limits so as not to gain kilos.

We have already indicated that white sugar is refined and, therefore, free of nutrients. But what about the brown? Brown sugar is a much healthier option because it preserves the original nutrients of the sugar and, in addition, it has a lower glycemic index that will provide us with energy for longer.

And if you don’t want to gain weight, the best and healthiest option that currently exists is stevia. This plant is a natural sweetener that does not contain calories and, therefore, it is perfect to be able to nourish ourselves with its vitamins but without gaining any weight.

Step: 3

In order to give up sugar, it is important that you check the label of the products you buy because you would be surprised by the number of prepared foods that are made with sugar. Check the labels and, in addition to looking for the word “sugar”, also look for other types of sugar such as the following:

  • Glucose
  • Saccharose
  • Lactose
  • Fructose
  • Dextrose
  • Maltose

It is also important that you know the foods that contain the most sugar so that you can prepare your shopping list without counting on them. For example, sauces contain large amounts of sugar even if you hardly notice it in its taste: ketchup, mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, etc.

Cereals are also foods with a lot of sugar, the same as pastries or cookies that, to have that sweet taste, it is essential that they are made with sugars. This is also the case with cocoa powder, which is considered just as harmful to our health as sugar. Soft drinks are also one of the products with the most sugar and should be eliminated as soon as possible because, in addition, they are made chemically, so they do not contribute anything positive to our bodies.

Step: 4

In addition to this, if you want to stop eating sugar you have to change a series of habits in your life that will help you reduce this ingredient from your diet. We will start by talking about white carbohydrates, that is, white bread, rice and pasta. These ingredients contain a large amount of sugar that can be perfectly counteracted if we change them for their versions made from whole wheat flour.

It is also recommended that you cook your own food so you know exactly what you are using in your recipes. In this sense, it is essential that you stop eating fast food because, although the taste is salty, the food that is sold there is full of refined sugar.

To avoid being tempted to eat sugar, we recommend that you stop buying these products so you don’t have them at home and instead opt for products that can satisfy your desire for sweets, such as fruits, skimmed yogurts, etc.
